Infections?

I have a Black Copper Marans hen that has recently suffered a loss of a toe. I can only think that she got it caught in the wire fencing. This happened about one week ago and I have not treated it, hoping that would just heal over. I have recently noticed inflammation around the ankle. I am concerned about an infection. Is it best to wait and see if it clears up? if it looks to be getting worst I shall have to dispatch her, if so is it wise to put her in the pot or best to just dispose of the body?
Thanks

It is best to treat the injury!

Just because she is an animal does not mean that she does not feel pain. And injured toe should not be a life or death matter, but by ignoring it, you might have turned it into one. Clean the wound, apply topical antibiotics and bandage. Also give an oral or injectable antibiotic.
