next year i MAY use pheasants for 4-H and would like to know about them. i was thinking of the red golden would that be good to start off with. How big of pen do they need all the things an noob needs to know.
i don raise ducks and chickens. have been for 4 or 5 years.

Red goldens are great starter birds, I keep mine in a 100 sq foot pen. They are not expensive. I just picked up a breeding pair for $35

Like chicks. I'm not sure but they are second year breeders and it takes awhile for them to get dcolors, so if you got them spring 2010 you would expect breeding 2012.

Ringnecks are first year breeders, and get their feathers at full maturity. There is a picture of one in my avatar.

Red goldens do breed the first year.It takes the male 2 years to color in,but he will be fertile in year 1.
