Info on Quail Molting?

Two of my female quail seem to be molting, and I want to learn more about it.

I've heard about quail doing this regularly and read sentences like 'My Quail is due for a molt'.
Is this a normal thing?
I can't find much information on it on Google, but I'm about to check BYC articles.

Yes, it is a 'normal thing' as you put it! Depending on when they hatch, will determine when they will molt usually it's mid summer or later in the fall before it gets too cold. Most of the time it's a gradual molt, hardly noticeable, other times it may be very evident of them molting.

Mine are very noticeable. They hatched
mid - late May and are molting middle of Winter.

It looks pretty funny. The other one has more severe molting. It almost looks like they've been violently mated with, but all the quail in that cage are female.
