Hi everyone, my name is Kara. For years, I have loved the beautiful feathering and simple way of life of all birds. I am hatching some chicks and I had a few questions.
First of all, I know I am suppose to have humidy, which I do, but don't have a humidity checker thing. How to you guys suggest I check the humidity levels? Also, I was wondering how long it will take for the chick to get out of its shell. I know it takes 21 or more days for it to finish developing, but how long does it usually take it to open its shell and get out of it?

Hi Kara, nice to meet you. Do you have an incubator to hatch the eggs in? Humidity and temperature are very important - you can buy a humidistat at pet shops (usually with fish supplies) or even at Walmart I get the Springfield brand there for around $ 7. Once the chick "pips" -pecks a small hole in the egg it can take as long as 24-48 hours or more, till they emerge from the shell . It is an exhausting effort for baby chicks that are all curled up inside.
