Hello, I found a female duck next to my house which has a canal behind it. She was laying on the ground with her wings open and breathing through the mouth. I don't know if this will help but there was an egg beside her. Before I got to her a male duck came and tried mating with her which led me to conclude that she ended up like that from maybe a male trying to breed and he was too harsh with her. I took the male of her and placed her in a cage in my yard. I decided to make a saline solution and used it to clean out her eyes which were shut and had sticks, dirt, and pus on them. I talked to my neighbors and they told me they saw her the day before there but thought she was dead. This means she had been 2 days like this. Once I got her eyes open I noticed they were dark blue but reddish and black and a little cloudy. I am not sure if she is blind or if she can see a little. I've been cleaning out the eyes multiple times a day but don't know anything I can put on it to help her. Then there is the other issue that she won't walk. She is laying down and won't stand up or move her feet. I rescued her yesterday and today she looked stronger so I don't know if she might be able to walk in a few days. She is also drinking a lot of water. I put some Gatorade to hydrate her but she is drinking water nonstop and I am not sure if this is good or bad. My worry is that if she can't walk or see, then the best thing for her is to be put out of her misery. There are no avian vet clinics near my house the one that is a little over an hour away is extremely expensive. I don't know what to do with her and will like to know some of your opinions and ideas that can help me out. Thank you in advance and sorry for writing so much. :frow

There is a terramycin eye ointment that you could get and put in her eyes in case she has an infection. You mentioned she's drinking a lot. Is she eating? What are you feeding her? Is this a wild mallard or ?

Pics might help see what us going on with her... get clear ones of her eyes and post them...

Eye infections, if caught in time and treated *can* clear up... bad infections/long term ones may not...

Drinking is good... how is her weight? Very bony, or well muscled?

Any external injuries that you can find?
