I have a 3 year old hen that recently started acting strange. I've noticed she seems to be walking slower and when she does walk she'll take a few steps and then rest. More than not i find her resting somewhere in the yard. We first thought maybe her foot or leg was injured but we found nothing. Now a few days later we found what is causing the problem. There seems to be a sore spot on her lower breast area. There is no feathers there and looks extremely painful. I'll post a picture. What does this look like and what should I do? I sprayed some vetricyn on it and she is in the coop for the night. Should I take her to the avian vet tomorrow? She is otherwise eating and drinking like normal. Although she looks thinner than usual. The rest of the flock is fine and is treating her fine as well. Coop is in great condition with pine shaving bedding.
I can not really tell where it is at, but you said lower breast so it is down towards the dirt--I am guessing. I would clean the area and spray it with blu-kote to keep the flies off it---should heal fine.
