I was asked to go feed a family members animals while they were out of town. They have many chickens and ducks housed together. There are two ducklings. I went in the morning and everything seemed fine and I fed them as instructed. Later in the afternoon I notice one of the duckling limping and not putting any pressure on one foot. A larger male duck kept attacking the duckling. In an attempt to get away the duckling jumped into the pond. It immediately went under the water, unable to paddle well enough to keep its head above water. I lifted it out of the pond. I now don't know what to do with it. I brought it into the house and made a small area for it. Its eating and drinking well (defacating regularly and healthily it seems). But its still not putting any pressure on its leg and is instead hopping around on one foot until it gets tired, then just lays down with its injured layer splayed outward. The owner of the ducks told me the larger male ducks will likely kill it if I put it back outside. They aren't sure what to do either though.
I'm not in a position financially to take it to a vet.
I'm not sure of its age or breed.
Any advice?
