Just got home to find my 8 week old silkie cross austrolop chick favoring right leg/hip. It may be possible he/she broke a leg or dislocated something getting on/off roost... in/ out of run. I have seperated the bird in a cage with bedding and gave it water and mash. His poop at this time looks like normal chicken poop. Other than limping around it looks "normal" I do not know an avian vet in coastal Ct. I would probably not got to a vet for this. Can I treat a broken leg with little anatomy experience? Can it heal by itself and would it be worth it. This is a pet of the family among many others.
In addition to this today... my neighbor's lawnmowing company shattered my plate glass window with an errant rock, my beehive swarmed for the second time this season, my broody hatched her one egg and it a dead chick so I could use some kind friendly answer. Thank you.

Wow, that was one bad day!

A couple of experienced people on here are caring for chickens with hip or pelvis fractures. One is speckledhen who has a roo she keeps in a separate place who only sort of walks; he has been like this a long time. Someone else, can't remember who, is treating a fractured pelvis (per xray.)

It is quite possible it is just a sprain or something else that is not a fracture, and he will walk again fine after some rest. I've read a lot of accounts here of a chicken limping for a few days or so then being just fine. Actually, this happened to me last year. I never had any idea what was wrong, no evident fracture, no wound, she just limped for a week then was fine. I believe even the one on here with the fractured pelvis is expected to be able to walk again after a few weeks of rest. I know that people do, with no problem after healing. If he were mine, I would give him some time and rest by himself or with a gentle buddy.

Good luck.

If it were an obvious break lower on the leg, I'd splint it to hold the bones still. If it is the hip joint or pelvis, there probably isn't anything that can be done short of surgery.

Thanks,
It looks higher up like hip. He tries to get up and then just sits down. We will keep a watch over him and just do what we can until we can no longer.
I know it is all part of being an animal owner. I read some past posts in search, so I see what you are saying. Wednesday has to be a great day!
