Last fall a beautiful rooster came into our neighborhood, and he lived off the land until this summer when something must've caught him and broke his right leg or dislocated it at the hip. It is now useless, but he is now living with my hens and has done well until now. He has been able to hop and has eaten well, but 2 days ago he went downhill. He is weak and not interested in eating. How can I tell if he has a fever and what should I do if he does>
Thanks,
gail
I posted this this morning, and this evening he is resting well and I'm giving him antibiotics just in case. He is isolated and is eating but unable to get around, not sure if it's from weakness or whether he has perhaps injured his good leg. Our coop looks like a hospital for sure with a hen in a large dog crate sitting on fertile eggs that I bought on Ebay! Now he's in his own shelter and I can barely get around for all the clutter, but for now, all the bases are covered.
