It is wierd that the scars thread got started because I was thinking this morning about asking you all this questions that has bugged me.

Do you notice as you get older (for those of us that have) that places where you had old injuries tend to cause you trouble now even if they "healed" perfectly?

Like: I got asthma when I was pregnant and it caused huge problems (long story) - now I have asthma all year round and trouble keeping it under control.

I got a muscle injury in my ribs and now whenever I get a bad cold that makes me cough alot that injury hurts.

I tell my husband that my warranty expired!

What about you guys? DO those old injuries come back to haunt you as you, umm, grew more seasoned??

I am 28 and am already feeling the effects of my younger days. All those riding injuries are catching up to me and it stinks. My back hurts where I had taken a few good falls, my knee from when my horse got too close to the indoor stalls and dislocated my knee, my crooked pinkie finger hurts now from when it got caught in the saddle of a running horse....and the list goes on!
I fell down bleachers at a soccer game 3 years ago ad my ankle STILL hurts....

28?? Bwahahaha I wish I remembered what 28 felt like! at 52, old riding injuries plague me & in addition to that, 10 weeks ago fell over a concrete retaining wall on to concrete & fractured five ribs; it was beyond excruciating for a month, still feeling the after-effects of that one & probably will for a while. Still also feel the ankle injured in a hot air ballooning incident several years ago (bad landing). Yep, you don't bounce back easier as you get older---a wakeup call to get extra calcium & start exercises for strength, flexibility & balance, which is my NY resolution!

My husband broke both legs about 2 or 3 years ago, and even now they swell up if he just trips over something, or stubs a toe.... He's going to suffer alot as he gets older.

Ah yes, apparently all my high impact sports when I was slightly younger have left me with an eroded kneecap... We found that on an MRI to investigate an old knee injury (damaged meniscus) that was getting worse from back when I used to do sabre fencing.

Oh, and there is the shattered L1 vertebra from when I took a bad fall rock climbing that has decided to tell me about weather changes.

I'm "only" 37

I know what all of you mean, I roller skated for many years, actually since I was 2 I had wheels for feet. Through the years I was on Speed teams and I just loved to skate.
Well about 5 years ago we all went to the rink and as I was showing my kids some "old" tricks on wheels my feet got tangled together and my right knee was the first to hit the floor.
I ended up with a fractured knee cap and that joker hurts like an old hockey stick (if you know what I mean).
Plus with 35 years of skating my knees are very, very, very worn. I was told by my bone specialist at the age of 15, that I needed a knee replacement. Boy, if he could see them now.

MIL said when she got out of the hospital that she was, "Good as new!" I fell out laughing. At 72 years old nothing is good as new and especially after an illness that had her hospitalized for a month!

When I walk up stairs I sound like a bowl of rice krispies! My knees pop and crack, my back aches, my hips is a weather forecaster....

Mahonri is right - getting old ain't for sissies!
