I got two chickens from a lady that had them in a pen with too many chickens so they were pecked. Their skin was all healed up but they were missing feathers. I had them in quarantine in a dog kennel. Today when I open the barn door I startled them and one went flying. She caught her freshly healed skin somewhere on the inside of the dog kennel and ripped it open. I Vetericyn But I don’t know if it needs to be stitched?

Could you post some better pics ?
I can’t really see the wound... looks like a small cut from those photos.
Just keep it clean and put some disinfectant on it. That’s horrible about the lady you got them off keeping them in such a horrible condition. Glad you saved two

I agree with @Brahma Chicken5000, on all counts.
I think if you clean it well with soap and water and continue the therapy you’ve been providing or if you want, switch to triple antibiotic ointment for a few days while it gets started healing, you’ll see improvement.

While this is a setback, I don’t see it as a disaster.
New skins is fragile and just not as thick as undamaged skin.
Just make sure no one goes after her. She should be in her own dog crate for a while.

You’ve done a great job so far, Keep up the good work!

Okay thanks y’all. She is in a big crate with her sister because I didn’t want her to be alone. So far she is the only one picking it herself. How do I keep her from picking herself?

You might want to bandage it some, which might be tricky because of the position of the wound.
Vet wrap and gauze are almost always your friend,
Or you could make her a little Cape sort of like saddle apron out of a worn T-shirt from the bottom of your T-shirt drawer. Or use a cut off sleeve from a long sleeve shirt, slide it on her body like she’s in a sausage casing and cut appropriate holes for various body parts as needed.
Whatever you use you just don’t want it to stick to the weeping healing wound.

Another possibility would be to make a “cone of shame” -an Elizabethan collar (like a dog wears after surgery) for her from a piece of flexible plastic like a Tupperware lid or even a paper plate maybe.
She might need help eating and drinking like this though.
But the object would be to make the diameter of it just large enough that when she attempts to peck, she’s blocked from reaching it.

Okay y'all, her backside is doing better but now we have an eye problem. She is on Tylan by mouth and has started eating better since she lost her cape. I feel like her eye needs to be cleaned out, but I can barely clean it and put antibiotic ointment on it. She wipes the ointment off onto her back as soon as I put it on her eye. Any suggestions? I'm not giving up on this pretty chicken!

Can you post a photo with more natural lighting, it's really hard to tell what's going on there.
Is this from injury like in your first post or is the eye swelling with other symptoms like mucous, coughing, sneezing, etc.?

See if that pic is better. I had a heck of a time getting a pic because she wants to turn and look with her good eye lol. The rest of my flock has fowl pox. Her eye started getting clear bubbles then swoll shut. No respiratory problems so far.
