I have an absolutely mental brahma, she recently went broody and hatched some chicks (all good).
The problem started when she laid an egg when the chicks were just under a month old, her behaviour changed, she didnt care about the chicks, completely ignored them and just kept trying to get back in with the main flock, the poor chicks just didnt understand this and kept getting trod on.
The weather is mild and the chicks are fledged so i removed mother and put her back in with the main flock where she proceeded straight to the nest box......... to go broody again.
Ive just spent 6 days trying to break her, tuesday she seemed back to normal so i put her back in gen-pop and then yesterday......... Back to being broody!
Im at my wits end and i really dont have the time to try and break her again BUT i also dont have any more room for birds. Im also concerned that this behaviour will have a detrimental effect on her health, her condition seems good but at some point its got to catch up with her surely?:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he:he

I have a showgirl who lays a couple eggs, goes broody, hatches chicks, raises them roughly 3 weeks, and starts all over again. She's been like this since she started laying at least 3 years ago. She is perfectly healthy and content. I sell the offspring when she's done with them. I will also switch out eggs or add in eggs that I want her to hatch. I keep her and chicks in with the flock with no problem.
