Does anyone know the best way or I should say the safest product to use in the coop and pen to control flies and skeeters? I'm on Long Island NY on the water and controlling flying insects is a battle. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The best thing I have found for controling flies in the run area is one of these fly traps that you add water and a fly attractant to. They stink to high heaven, but they sure do work.

I am battling the mosquitoes this year myself. They seem to like to hide in the coop during the day. When I'd open the door in ther in te morning what seemed like hundreds of the nasty little things would be swarming around. I found something they didn't like though, it's called Screw Worm Spray and it's good for flies too. This stuff works great because it can be used on the birds themselves as well as the area around them. I sprayed it in the coop while the birds were all out in the run giving it plenty of time to dry before they returned to the coop. I haven't had anywhere near as many mosqitoes in there for several days now. I also sprayed the back end of my fluffy bottomed hens who tend to adorn their feathers back there with poo. It has worked great for keeping the flies off of them. The can says it will repel bugs for up to 4 weeks.
