Insides seem to be coming out of chicken's vent

Hi,

My daughter went out to feed and water the chickens this morning. She came back with a chicken that had a messy bottom and with further inspection, it seems as if her insides are red and swollen and protruding out of her vent. I tried to poke and prod gently, but they don't really want to go back in.

Does anyone know what this is and how to cure it?

I believe that is called vent prolapse. If you use the "search" feature you should find lots and lots of threads about it!

Sounds like a prolapse-clean the area well & gently-apply a little Preperation H, really. Then gently push the prolapse bach in. Isolate the bird to a small spach where she can't move around much and there are no other birds to bother her. Keep an eye on things & repeat treatment if needed. Some make it some don't.
