Inspiring Fake Eggs

I read that you are supposed to put a fake egg in the nesting boxes to inspire your hens to lay there. Does it matter what size the egg is? Or how much it weighs?

Many people use wooden ones. You can order them through many poultry supply places (Murray McMurray has them, for one) and I believe craft stores usually have them. Some people use a golf ball.
