We got 2 feed store ducks back in the spring. They turned out to be two males. A Magpie and a KC. We ended up putting them under a broody mamma chicken with 3 day old chicks and they flourished. Fully grown, they were best friends, and did well with the chickens and slept in the coop. Well a raccoon got our Magpie named Goose last night due to a faulty coop door. Now the lone drake seems out of sorts. We're thinking about getting him a few girls to keep him company. Good idea? Bad idea?

What's the best way to brood baby ducks and integrate into a flock without a broody mama hen this time.

I added 1month younger hens who just got their voices for my not sexually mature but adult feathered drake. The were a flock within hours -- but he also spent a day alone after his broodmates got rehomed.

The flock remains daytime separate and night time co sleepers from his parent's flock except for occasional drake charges. The hens seem to want to integrate but the boys won't allow it.

The new hens were from craigslist.

I got some hens from craigslist last night but I am a bit worried about their health. I posted a separate thread about them. They look pathetic.
