Hey y’all. I have three 5 or 6 week old chicks. It’s very possible that two might be roos. I honestly hope not. If that is the case, I don’t want my flock to be down to one, so I ordered a buff Orpington started chick from Mcmurray that will arrive later this week. How do I handle adding her to my tiny young flock? I’m so new to this!

You will need to pen them next to each other for a week or two before starting supervised mingling.
Thank you! I’m glad I have two sets of feeders/waterers. Will she need to be quarantined if she’s coming from Mcmurray hatchery? They’re immunized right?

I don't know if they vaccinate their started chicks. You shouldn't need to quarantine, but it's always recommended. It might be hard on a single bird to be separated, so you will have to weigh risks, and decide what you are willing to risk.

My first hatch we did a very small batch and 1 chick came out so we ended up buying 3 more from some people that live close to us. When we integrated them we put the new chicks right in and everything was fine. We did watch for a while and checked up on them quite often though. Hopefully it goes smoothly for you!
