So, I’m sure I already know what I’m going to hear but what I REALLY need to know is….is it better to bring newer chicks in while the “older flock” is still young themselves or when they are older. I do know how to integrate them but is it easier when the “older chickens” are younger? They are 8 weeks old. This next ones I would like to get would hatch either the 25th of July or August 1st. I already have one chicken of the breed I would like to get more of.

In my mind the sooner would be better. That way they are completely set in their pecking order, as they seem to still be figuring this out. I still would do the look but don’t touch method but I would start kinda early and everyday. Even if it is just for 30 min.

What do you all think? Earlier the better or later the better? Or does it even matter?

Your current batch aren't even considered hens yet. They aren't even POL pullets. So everyone is very young. It doesn't really matter when you bring them in. It's up to you.

The pecking order is a dynamic entity. It's always subject to change. But bonds formed between various flock members endure.

Ok! I wasn’t really sure if it would be a good idea. It sounds good in my head. 😂 When are they considered pullets? I always call them babies but I haven’t ever found anything to tell me exactly when they are considered pullets.

Here are some useful articles on integration:

Thank you. I will look at these. I didn’t see anything in my search that i thought would help.
