My Coop
My Coop
I currently have a flock of five grown hens that are 3 years old and 2 years old. I have two Easter Egger hens and one Easter Egger rooster. They are 11 weeks old I have kept them in separate cages but by each other for the past 3 weeks. I try to have them free range together but they would all just go off and separate directions it was very difficult I even tried putting them up somewhere near each other but I just took a plunge and I put the three youngsters in with the big girls. There are a few pecks here and there and the young ones keep running away quickly which causes more pecking. I hope today they figure that out. I put the young ones in the coop at night and one of my older hens yelled out in a loud discontented chicken voice lol there's a little bit of pecking here and there this morning. How long does it take for the integration process typically? I know that if they start to draw blood that I need to separate them again. Any advice? I have separate feeding and water stations throughout the entire run I think at least 5 and I have a couple areas that I made for the little ones to run into to get away from the bigger hens

How much space in coop and run, in feet by feet?
Dimensions and pics would help.
As long as noone is bloodied or being chased down and pinned and beaten unmercilessy,
leave them to work it out on their own.
Separating them will only start the integration process all over again.

It's hard to get specs on the run it sectioned and irregularly shapped. I purposefully gated around the hybrid willow trees coming in to provide needed shade durning cali hot summers (up to 115 during heat waves!) I'd say one area 5 by 3, then 5x5, then 3 by 5? So that space for 8 (but giving two to a friend when rooster aND hen are 16 weeks)

I just put back the gate with enough room for the young ones to get in and out but not the adults so I hope that's a good enough compromise

Not good pics the run wraps around the whole coop like a u shape. I would say I can't have more than 8 or it would be crowded. I have 5 adults three youngsters and I'm giving the rooster and one large Golden buff to my friend. She lost her rooster recently and a large portion of her flock to a fox. She is moving and I'm saving those two for her to start her flock
