Advice needed. We have two beautiful Rouens, a mating pair as it seems. My daughter raised them for a science project and also needed the experience because of our state going into lockdown. (Please no judgments) We knew that we could likely only raise them to about 8 weeks before they needed a new home because we don't have a yard that is able to have a duck coop. We made sure that we had a new home set up before even bringing them home. The farm they were headed to has changed their minds though and we need to find a new home for them. We have a family that wants to take them but has chickens. They are concerned about our drake trying to mate with their chickens. Any advice on how to integrate them together without any of those issues? They are 8 weeks now.

Hard to know without seeing a picture of their setup? What will they be kept in, how many chickens do they have, any more info about their setup would be great, and can help determine the likely hood of fighting.

@Isaac 0 ... It looks like they will be sharing a huge area to forage. Over an acre of garden and lawn. The family built them their own small duck house to sleep in and it sounds like they will live in the chicken coop once they build the new large chicken coup they ordered. It's a bit of a haven for them so we are glad that they get to be there. I think there are 10 chickens. No rooster as of yet.

I have chickens, ducks and geese together. Chickens and ducks won’t try to mate. There are cross species friendships but chickens pretty much ignore the waterfowl, while one of my ganders adopted Muscovy ducklings. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

It doesn’t happen here either. But it does happen, when a drake doesn’t have enough females to keep him happy and watching my group they need many. Maybe the new family could pick up a few more females.
