Well, wondering how my assessment fits in with that of others, which to date, is this:

turkey people <> quail people, pigeon people, dove people

What do you think? I like all the barnyard fowl I have, which is all the ones ecept those noted above. I can't see myself interested in the birds above, those kinds might not be interested in turkeys, either. Go out of my way not reading those threads.

Who's flexible enough to have all of the above or read about all types on this part of the forum?

I love to read all about all types of birds. I raise them or have raised them and hunt them, but above it all I just love to EAT the...chicken, duck, goose, turkey, pigeon, emu, ostrich, dove, quil, chuckar, pheasant , etc.. YUMMMMMYYYYY !!!!!

I have owned quail, turkeys, doves, and am currently raising pigeons and chickens, and I really enjoy all of them. I'm considering getting a few more quail and maybe a couple ducks. I'll probably even get into showing pigeons.

I have raised most birds at some time. Button Quail to Ostrich.

At this time I have Quail,Pheasants,Chickens,Geese,Guineas,Peafowls, Turkeys,Parrots, and Cockatiels.

I read most threads and try to help other with problems they have.

Thanks for the replies. Very positive points of view. I guess this must be my deep farmer instinct/bias, and I'm not really a farmer, just a barnyard fowlist. Love those full-size bird brains!

My unsubstantiated thoughts on the other birds are that they are too small to interact with, though I do have a couple of parakeets. On the other hand, when a discussion of emu or ostrich shows up, that can hardly be considered the case! Then, the shoe goes on the other foot.

I feel, in ways I relate to dogs, turkeys are nice, sturdy, introspective St. Bernards and the others kinds of small birds would be peek-a-poos, tea cups, or other kind of foo-foo dogs (which I also have also, a Pom). I wonder if I'll ever become smitten with the smaller birds?

coturnix quails are small compaired to most types of chickens, (about the size of a pigeon) and one that's raised by people i call them mini chickens for a reason (friendly, inquisitive, funny, and adorable). Small doesnt mean dumb and in the case of birds deffinatly doesnt mean foo foo prissy.

I agree with Monarc about the coturnix...I interact with them just like the chickens... and the turkeys, and the chukars, and the bobwhites, and the buttons...

That's the beauty of the forums. If a topic doesn't appeal to you, you just don't have to reply. And no one minds!

All I have are guineas and chickens, but I plan to expand to quail and maybe a peacock or two. I just love learning about other kinds of birds and am trying to soak up as much as I can before I get my birdies.
