Internal pip?

I have read about internal pips but I am a little confused. If the eggs are locked down and the incubator should not be opened, how are internal pips detected?
It can be opened, but you have to be careful. I don't lockdown until I see an internal pip. I candle to see them. As long as there are no external pips, its safe to open the incubator.

My air cells look good and I had humidity at 50% through day 18 and humidity has been around 70-75% the past couple of days. There was good movement on lockdown day but when I used a 1500 lumen light through the glass I am not seeing the movement I was seeing but I can still see good veins in most of the eggs. Could the high humidity hurt the chicks and caused them to quit? Lockdown for this batch was the day after a 3 hour power outage which resulted in lower temps and hard to control humidity.

What's an internal pip?
It's the first step of hatching, it's when the chick pips into the air cell and breathes oxygen for the first time. Then he externally pips about 24 hours later.
Here's a picture of an internal pip.

yes that is a candled internal pip thank you MGG, when i candle and see that i mark that space and lay it down with marked side facing up so i can see the external pip, which takes about 24 hours, then about another 2-12 hours after that for zipping out of shell. It really wears them out and they need to rest afterwards. Don't be alarmed that they flop all over your other unhatched eggs it's ok it won't hurt them.
