Hi everyone,
So, today I was cleaning the coops and after I finished, I noticed one of my hens’ poops looked like this:

The thing is, she has been separated for a while now due to other reasons and I’m almost 100% sure no parasites were in her poo earlier today. Does anyone know what these things are and what I can do about the situation?

Those are large roundworms, one of the few that you can see without a microscope. They are also the most common worm in chickens. Wazine 17 can treat only roundworms, and is used in the water for 24 hours. But I would get Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer, and treat each chicken separately. Valbazen dosage is 0.09 ml per pound or 1/2 ml for most 5 pound chickens given orally once and again in 10 days. SafeGuard dosage is 1/4 ml per pound given orally for 5 straight days.

Should I stop eating their eggs after dosing them? If so, for how long? Also, are there cheaper alternatives? If not, I can make do, but preferably...

Jefferslivestock.com sells Safeguard liquid goat wormer for about $20+$6 shipping. Most feed stores carry it as well as Tractor Supply Co. (TSC)
The 125ml bottle has about a two year expiration and should last a long time.
Normally there's a 14 day withdrawal period after the last dosing.
We've eaten eggs after dosing our birds and we're still here after all these years. However if you suspect you or a family member might have an adverse reaction to residue in eggs, toss them in the garbage and dont sell nor give any away to be eaten.
I forgot to add that not only does Safeguard get rid of large roundworms (in your pic,) it gets rid of other types of unseen worms such as capillary worms, cecal worms and others.

Sounds like I’ll be using Safeguard. Thank y’all!
