I have had chickens for about 25 years. Some I raised from chicks; a few I inherited. My oldest brought home our first rooster about 30 years ago, but we didn't have hens for few years. She found him walking down a busy street in a suburb. She named him Vern, and all our roosters have been named Vern ever since. I have 13 chickens now. Unfortunately, one of my new hens is a rooster who has become aggressive. I have him in a house with two hens for company. This rooster is 5 !/2 months old. I want to place him or donate him to a dinner. He is a beautiful Barred Rock, and I always liked the temperament of Barred Rock hens. He is almost violent when he mounts one of the hens who lives with him. Suggestions for places to donate him will be appreciated.

Glad to meet you. I am not sure at what age roosters get some sense proper behavior - it may be speeded up by exposure to tough love older hens who put that bad boy in his place. But ... you need to protect your hens from a rough Vern, and yourself as well.

You can try to rehome him if you think somebody can reform him and live with him safely.
Post to Craigslist, any local Facebook Poultry interest groups and here on BYC at your state thread (or if you're near a border, include nearby state(s)), and on the Rehome forum.
* Always include at least your town/county so folks know how close you are;
* Include the best glamor shot picture of the handsome Vern,
* Include info on his breed, where you got him; was he raised by you? By hens?
* Be honest about why you are rehoming him

Be careful when people come to look at him. Practice Biosecurity so that visitors don't track in germs from some other poultry place to yours, and make your flock sick! Put Vern in a dog or cat carrier and bring him out to see any prospective visitors, rather than having them traipse into your poultry area.
