Hi. Thanks for adding me. Here’s my introduction.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up taking care of chickens on my parents’ farm. I moved to the big city when I married a city boy 21 years ago. We had a tiny flock of chickens in our urban backyard about 10 years ago and led too busy lives to take care of them properly, so they went back to my mom’s flock. We now have 3 kids with my youngest being obsessed with all things farm. We’re still in the middle of the city, but now have four 6-week old ducks, four 12 week old Golden Laced Wyandotte hens, and five 3 week old Buff Orpington chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have four 6-week old ducks, four 12-week old Golden Laced Wyandotte hens, and five 3-week old Buff Orpington chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

four 6-week old ducks
four 12 week old Golden Laced Wyandotte hens
five 3 week old Buff Orpington chicks

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

So far they’ve been therapeutic for all my children in each of their own ways. Same for me.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Building stuff. I built our chicken coop and a picket fence from pallets. I also crochet, garden, read, and homeschool my youngest.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I’m a stay-at-homeschool-mom. My two oldest started school outside of home this year and my youngest is still at home with me. My husband has a food marketing business specifically geared toward small food businesses.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I was directed to BYC from google when I was researching if honeysuckle is toxic to ducks and chickens. I figured since I found some great answers there, that I should probably join the community to learn more.

When you decided to get back into poultry, you jumped right in with both feet, didn't you? :D. Sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy -- and I bet the kids are having a field day with the ducklings and chicks.

Congrats on building your own coop from pallets. That's quite an undertaking. I have a pile of pallets that I once thought I would make into a coop, That's as far as I got!

Welcome to BYC; hope we are able to help you with all of your questions and provide some fun, too!
