Hello everyone,
I have a four-year-old Pekin duck that lost her siblings last fall. She has been alone since about November, but I put mirrors in her house, and she seems to be doing quite well. I have a friend that needs to rehome her two Cayuga ducks and was wondering if they will all get alone if I take them in? I was advised against ducklings, but these are older, probably about two or three years old.
If I do take them, what are some precautions I need to take until they get used to each other?
Thanks!
Caroline

Definitely take them, your duck needs ducky company.

See no touch initially-- for how long depends on the reaction. Then supervised time together. Hopefully all will go well over only a few days.

I have had to keep drakes on see no touch for 3 and 4 weeks, but yours should not need that long. My son just adds new ducks to the coop, without any time see no touch. He hasn't had problems mixing pekins with pekins, but he added a muscovy female that his drake would not accept. I don't recommend my son's approach: see no touch even for a short period is better

Yeah honestly when I’m introducing ducks, or really any birds just when you see that all the birds are healthy and not killing each other, and like communing, I let them be together until I trust them then stop watching them so often

So far so good, the two new females are getting used to their new home. They haven't wandered much but I figured its because it is a new home. Peggy has gone to them through the baby gate but otherwise has seemed to have no interest in them. They ae separated for now though.
