Hello everyone!
I'm excited to join the group. I hope to gain as much knowledge as possible from all of those with much more experience. Currently, I have no chickens at this time, but plan to start this spring. My plan is to raise them without grain of any kind. I want birds that are dual purpose, good for meat and eggs. I live in Southern Indiana on a 20 acre farm that is mostly woods. The climate is fairly mild most of the time, but the possibility of experiencing all 4 seasons in one week is absolutely present. It's a bit unpredictable that way. I want to keep my small operation as sustainable as possible. I stay busy with work. I am a registered nurse, so there's no shortage of work amidst the pandemic. That being said, I would like to try and design something where the lights/heating elements, etc, are timed and solar or 12 volt. This is my goal at this time, which most definitely is subject to change depending on what I learn here. So, any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning new things!
