Hi all!
We are in Pennsylvania and about to get our first group of hens. We have hatchings reserved for us for a mix of Welsummer, Ameraucana, Dorkings and Faverolles, 11 total. We are so excited! We'll be brooding in modified XL plastic dog crates inside our house. Our coop is almost finished and we're picking up the first round of supplies for a large run build today.
Hens will be our first/only livestock type adventure. We are pretty basic rescue-dog-obsessed people otherwise
We're a family of 5 and I have always wanted to raise chickens, despite a pretty decent fear of birds. I am excited to work through that with the babies as they grow. We don't really have intentions of selling eggs as we eat a ton ourselves and have big families to share with. The best part will just be having some new babies in the family and involving the teens in learning about the animals and food supply.
