Introduceing chicks to flock

How old do chicks need to be to intoduce to an exsisting flock?

One step at a time..Even at 10 weeks my chicks are not as big as my existing flock. They are visible to each other sharing the coop and visible in seperated runs, but I'm not comfortable putting them together yet. I have let them range the yard together , but I stay close to watch the older hens. One hen got the neck of a chick with a peck-- that hen found herself getting swatted with the broom.
