OK OK....sorry but I have another question, just one more...well for today anyway....It's been a loooooooooooong couple of days:

We are replacing our DOA duckling with another the same age that a guy near me has. I mentioned that our chick had died and he said his neighbour's have chicks. When we tried to put our duckling, who was the same age, in with the chicks, they totally bullied her. I'm concerned about putting a 2 day old chick in with 4 three day old chicks who have been together since day 1. Can that work?

Thanks again for all your advice and commiseration on the other thread.

I'd try it and see. If it doesn't work, how about putting 1 of the older chicks (the nicest) with it for a few days? Add another of the older chicks for a day or so. Best if you can separate them in the same brooder by hardware cloth.
I'm sure it will work out. You just may be playing musical brooders for a week.

When I got my chicks one was a week older(3 weeks) than 4(2 weeks old) and one was a week younger(1 week) than the same 4. Everyone got along just fine. Ironically the younger one was the first one to lay.
