I have a flock of 6 older Americauna's. I was offered an Americauna rooster. I am wondering if it is a bad idea to introduce a rooster into this flock. I would like to breed some of my hens they have lovely coloring but don't want to traumatize them. Would like to hear from anyone about this.
Thanks

Actually, he has been offered as a loan. I know the owner but I was reading some info on the flock safety area today and I need to verify his health... I think that the owner would like to have some of the offspring as well, her hen was killed by a roaming dog a few months ago.

You would have to do an isolation for a few weeks. Some of my hens got sick after the roo was introduced. I bet he brought them the mites too. As for pecking order it was a bit bloody. The girls fought him,but he stood his ground, and in the end won the top spot. Thankfully no one wa sseriously harmed, but it was hard to just stand by and watch it.Knew it had to be done though.

How long you planning to keep him? To bad you can't just keep him.
