I have a flock of hens and i want to introduce a rooster. Should i get a sex-link chick or a pullet? i want my roo to be friendly like my girls, can you "train" a rooster to be nice as a pullet? Any suggestions?hu

Okay, let's talk about the names first. A pullet is a female chicken under the age of one year. A cockerel is a male chicken under the age of one year. So you want a cockerel.
Do your research and pick a breed that you find pleasing to the eye and is known for their gentle roos.
You can often find young cockerels for free or close to it.

oh......oops:rolleyes: pullet gotcha,

I've heard that roosters can get mean if they aren't hand raised, would a cockerel still be trainable to be nice?

First off did you quarantine this roo? That is the most important thing to do. When we brought Bucky home quarantined then put him in with the girls and they did just fine.

If you bring home a new bird you need to be prepared to quarantine them for a period of 30 days, as far away from your current birds as possible. This is to prevent a bird that is seemingly healthy, but harboring an illness, from giving it to your whole flock.

They might not like him at first. They're liable to put up a fuss when he tries to correct them or mate with them, but they get over it. Just a friendly warning. Chicken matings are not a pretty sight. Some folks can't handle how rough the rooster appears to be with the hens during the mating, but it's a fact of life for the chickens and they don't suffer any harm.
