Introducing "Boss Hogg" 2 yo roo to protect the flock need help

I obtained boss hogg to watch over my 12 week old flock i was just wondering how long it typically takes for his protective instincts to take over ive seen some already in use but not like i expected.....he been with them for about a week now. i always was under the impression a roo will make sure all the hens are up at nite,watch over them while they free range etc am i wrong?

I would think that at 12 weeks old perhaps he does not consider them his "girls" so he may be just getting warmed up. With their maturity and as he becomes more settled he should step it up. He is beautiful

At 12 weeks, they are still chicks to him. Roosters will protect their hens, yes.
