Hello everyone!
I have never owned chickens. But always thought they were beautiful. So after reading a few books and lurking on the web, BYC and YouTube. I decided to finally bring it up to SO and 2 kiddos (2yr&9yr) and to my surprise everyone was on board! Decided on silkies because of our current location and because... They're aliens! :gigI was supposed to start with 4 silkies(one for each of us) but because silkies can't be sexed we decided on 5 (the odds of only getting one roo:fl:idunno:lau ) So, I went to get my silkies and... How can you only pick 5?!!:love :jumpy So I ended up coming home with 8 baby silkies. :confused:My SO gave me a look/smirk but wasn't surprised (he probably regretted letting me go on my own) :hugs He looked them over and picked the biggest black one (they're really All mine, who are we kidding?!haha) but I continued to let them all pick;) My son picked the smallest black nugget in the bunch. My daughter picked the smallest white/yellow one. I agreed and even though I will be doing everything (hoping to gradually get them more involved:fl) I know they will all grow into amazing pets that will win them over and make us a crazy chicken family :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy I joined BYC and have already had a complication (lice, I posted about it) But now that I've had a bit over a week I feel that it would be nice to share my babies and welcome them to BYC since all my posts will be about them. Also because as we observed them we finally decided on names. :woot I will refer to them as "it" because I don't know if they're hens or roos.
BABY#1
I will start with our only full brown one, we named it "Nugget."
Nugget is a total team player, always helping when the others are cleaning themselves, and always with the majority of the group. Sweet little one.
BABY#2 AND #3
I collectively call them "The Sisters" (wishful thinking:fl) "The Twins" but their names are "Delta" & "Tango." They're always together, and always chirp for each other and help one another, and even compete for food at times. I can tell them apart because one of them has a darker stripe on it's back and well.. they're not really twins :p hehe.
#BABY 4
This chick is the Itty-bitty of the bunch. But is very confident! It's all black and my son's favorite. My son named him "Griever" (I think it has something to do with minecraft) he is very cute and always running around like a roadrunner.
BABY #5
The second biggest of the bunch, my SO's favorite. He is also black with dark gray. We named him "Raptor" (velociraptor) He is the shiest and does not eat from my hand often. He'd rather wait and steal someone else's food like a vulture(and adorable one) I get very happy when he comes to me. I feel like I'm making progress. :hugs
BABY #6
It's the second smallest, my daughter and My favorite(because he's not afraid and always comes to me and gets on my hand). We named it "Yoshi" because of his cute puffy head. And because Yoshi likes to hop around like it's about to bump a block over it's head and get a mushroom:ya (loved Mario Bros)
BABY #7
We named it "Bullie" because... Well.. it's a bit aggressive when it comes to eating it always pecks my hand or finger and runs over anyone to get something. Haha always ryles them all up too!
BABY #8
Last but not least, the biggest of them all! We named it "Rexie" (T-Rex) because of it's size and because of the way it moves. Loves to stretch out its neck and always reminds us of what we feel a dino would act. Always tries to take everyone's treat and is very fast. Also cautious to eat from my hand at times. It's all white and very active.

Sorry if this was way too long(I won't be mad if you just scrolled down to the pictures hehe)
I have trained them to the word "chip chip chip" for snack and hand feeding time, just so they get comfortable with me and eventually won't fuss to be held or isn't afraid to show me affection. Because I know I might smother them even when they don't want it. Ha! Been keeping my distance only because they had/have lice and are going through treatment. But very anxious to let them be all over me, haha. :love They will all be spoiled little aliens/dinos! Hehe. Thank you for all that read the introduction and even the one's who just take a second to view my babies :frow
May I one day help someone in BYC with information or just in any way.

Aww, they’re all so very cute! I have to say I’m smitten with Bullie. Those polka dots! :drool Should be a lovely paint silkie when grown. :love Raptor does have some very nice fluffy feet though. :clap Oh and by the way, welcome to BYC!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Took them outside in the warm weather for the first time. They were very observant and when they saw three large crows flying by they ran closer to me. :thmy heart melted :love
