Hi All, I’m Diane from south Louisiana. New to chickens as of last Easter. I started with chicks and lost each. And. Every. One. of them over a period of time. no doubt to newbie stupidity. And one to a hawk. But I’m trying.
I currently have two black copper maran hens, both almost a year old. Good layers. This chicken obsession is
A. More work than I ever thought,
B. More heartbreak than I ever imagined,
And
C. Flat out addictive!
I let them free range most of the time but hawks and owls have them cooped up lately.
Always open to suggestions and already grateful from everything I’ve learned from y’all.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. There are existing discussions on predators and raising chicks etc which you might find helpful.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your girls, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
