Hi. My name is Tara and I have two male ducks: a white Pekin and a crested white, named Aflac and Q-Tip, respectively.

We've had ducks since last spring and are still figuring things out. We built them a coop that the get shut in at night and they have the run of a fenced yard during the day and a pond that we fill in the summer. In the winter, I've been bathing them in our bathtub every month or so, when they got super yucky looking.

We adopted a fully grown, several years old Aflac as a pet for my middle son. He had been living with chickens all his life. We got him a friend (Q-Tip) -who was three months old but was also full-grown when we got him-before the weather got cold and we would have less time to spend outside with Aflac. We enjoy the ducks, but now that we realize how much work they are, we'd like to get some females so we can justify having them at all. (LOL.) We live in town, close to neighbors, so we thought maybe Muscovy females to keep the noise down. I'd like to start those ones out as ducklings and not sure what all we'll need for that.

We live in Los Alamos, New Mexico and the ducks never want to stay in their coop in daytime, no matter what the winter cold is like. They sleep right in the snow.

What else? I have three sons: twelve, nine and four and work in a kindergarten classroom. Also, we have a ginger long-haired tabby, a black Corgi/Lab mix and a tiger salamander. So, obviously, we're crazy.

I've enjoyed using this site to learn lots of useful information. Decided to stop lurking.

Thanks!

crazy fits in just fine here. we all are up to our eyeballs in something...right now, for me, it's eggs...could be worse.
