I had a 4-4.5 foot roost that I moved to 2ft and a made a now ladder because it was a little rough I have some heavy breeds Bramma and some turkeys but I think it was the heigh purchI personally wouldn't put them in with them, just because hens are already stressed from it they don't need more stress. Also, what's causing it? It should rarely ever happen, make sure heavy birds aren't jumping on hard surfaces, that they are on a clean natural groud, keeps their feet from getting cut, and a natural surface stops feet issues, natural perches etc. Back in summer last year, half my flock had it, it was only my heavy birds, they got sores from jumping onto the floor from the loft.
Definitely with Brahmas and turkeys a perch like that is too high unless they have a very patted bottom to land on. Although they doo love hight at times lol. My Brahma hen used to always live in the loft, but she has to jump down 6 feet to the ground, or 8 feet down outside if she jumps out the door from the loft. She had bumblefoot twice until I found out the cause. I put a puppy fence in the loft lol, but doesn't work for my BCM henI had a 4-4.5 foot roost that I moved to 2ft and a made a now ladder because it was a little rough I have some heavy breeds Bramma and some turkeys but I think it was the heigh purch
We started treating 10 about 8 days ago and four are cured and the others are getting betterHello there and welcome to BYC!
If your entire flock has bumblefoot, its possible they have a common bacteria called Mycoplasma Synoviea. It is contagious to the flock and difficult to treat and many times not successful using antibiotics. I would have a vet take a blood sample to find out. Good luck!![]()
