Hello there,

My names Helen and I’ve had chickens for about 7 years now. When introducing news hens to my flock I haven’t ever separated them. I have 2 hens in my flock at the moment and just brought home another 2 today. I have a question regarding worming. I have just wormed my 2 and the new girls have been indoor reared so not wormed. As they aren’t separated I can’t worm the new girls without doubling up my 2. How long can I leave worming them all together? Will the new girls be ok for a couple of months?

Do the new ones actually have worms?

If they have too many worms, they do need worming. (Separating them for a few days might be the easiest way to deal with that.)

If they have no worms, they do not need worming.

If they probably have no worms, they probably do not need worming.

No, the new ones have no worms so you’re right they don’t need worming. I will hold off until other are due.

I have 2 2 yr olds I added a couple 1 yr olds and I had to put a divider on the roost. Now I am going to add 3 more layers. I have bar to roost in the run also I was thinking of letting some out in the run over night not sure if that is a good idea or not. Or just putting them all in the coop?

Hi Teresa,
Sorry for the late reply I only just saw this message. So I would put them all in the coop at night. Wait until it’s dusk and then put the newbies in with your existing girls. This is what I did. I ended up putting the newbies in a crate in the daytime which was in the run then at night I would put them all together in the coop. When’s it’s dark or getting dark there doesn’t tend to be any fighting.

Thank you very much for your info.
