Hi, I was curious when the best time to introduce my new hen with 6 chicks (all speckled sussex) to my barred rock pullet. The last survivor of a raccoon attack. To th hen and chicks. I have put pictures on. Do you have any tips? I want them to be able to sleep together in the coop soon. I put the pullet in the garage in a big Tool and Die box. I just got the hen last night. HELP!

There will be some squabbles whenever you do it. The safest time is after the chicks are adult size -- but you can try it now if you wish. The mama might do a good job of protecting her chicks. I would certainly have a big area to put them together in, with hiding places available. You could even fix up a small space where the chicks could go if necessary, with an opening too small for the adults, although they will want to stay close to their mama. Also have some treats handy.

Tried it. The pullet stays away from Mama and her babies. She has pecked the babies. Mama chases her away from her babies. They just can't stay in the coop together. I dont want the pullet to get killed by Mama. Any suggestions for keeping them in the coop?

make a wire screen between them (i.e.... divid the coop in half) so that they can see one another but not be able to get to each other. I did this with our two flocks and after two weeks integrated them. While they still keep their distance from one another they are together without too much tension just the occasional peck.
