Cheers All
I too have caught the bug for Gallus Domesticus. I had been thinking about backyard chickens for about a year now. So in mid december I had a craftsman/tradesman friend build me a coop (He is selling them on Craiglist). I aquired 3 pullets about a month ago. 1 white leghorn and 2 BA's. Well one of the Ba's turned out to be a roo (la..la..la.lola), and I traded him for another BA pullet yesterday.
I wanted the hens for the eggs as well as the poo for my organic garden that is only fertilized from the compost pile, mushroom innocullation and Vermicompost. Initially their names were Huey, Duey, and Luey( the Lola). Now they are Mrs. Howell(leghorn), Ginger, and Mary-Ann. Mrs. Howell has been laying since 12-31-08 yippy!!!
Thanks for all the great information!!

Welcome! I'm a fellow "urban homesteader": chicken farmer, organic gardener, canning fanatic, etc. You'll learn lots about chickens & more here at BYC, and I'm sure that you'll teach us all things, too.
