Hello, I'm Kate.
I'm so happy to have found a discussion that is taking part realtime.

So...
I've gotten myself into a little mess. I was given 2 dozen eggs that
"probably, maybe" were fertile ... So I said "hey! I have an incubator,
I'll put them in and see if they hatch out! Ya, it'll be fun! I love ducks,
I've had them before, I've had geese too. Well, I gave 6 to a broody
chicken hen. After sitting on them for a couple of days, she flat
refused to thereafter. Hmm. okay.... Well, that leaves 18 in the
incubator. Long story short, literally... one egg hatches. I have one.
One. ONE Duckling. OMGosh. She is imprinted on me, sleeps in a
basket next to me on my bed. She is a princess duck, Sally. She'll
be a house duck for sure. I tried to integrate her into chicks who
pecked at her feet. No more.
Maybe when she can defend herself better.

If anyone has a pattern for Duckdiapers they would be willing to share...
that would be appreciated. Pretty sure I have a house duck.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Farm routine, we have an acre with of patches of garden, hobby bees and my horse.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

The above keeps me pretty busy, otherwise I like getting together with friends, cooking, quilting and hand crafts.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Well, the above, I have friends that also have animals too, all pre-pandemic. It makes me realize people have really taken a leap if they have jumped in only since the beginning of this worldwide chaos.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found this, BYC last night, searching for information on raising ducks. There's not a whole lot out there, I went to my local bookstore and bought a $25 book for 10 pages on ducks (part was how to cull for meat, ugh) the rest was about chickens and other barnyard animals. At least there will be some other good reading there, I hope.

:welcome :wee:ya:yesss: Hello Kate and welcome to BYC, You found an Amazing Poultry Community to be a part of with many great knowledgeable members, who are more then willing to jump in and help you along your journey with any questions you may have. :)

Make sure to find her another little duckling friend and make sure she has enough niacin in her daily diet so she don't start to have leg issues. Good luck and please keep us all posted. :)
