(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first little flock last year, 4 chickens in an urban area. We since moved to a small town and are starting over again with 6 chicks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6 chicks, just a week old!
(3) What breeds do you have?

Barnyard chicken mutts :) Parents are a mix of black australorp, brown leghorn, and something else that the friends who hatched for us couldn't recall.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Also, the need to get out in the yard every day. Made me appreciate the land we've got and the rhythm of the outdoors much more.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, reading, needlework
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 3 little boys, and are slowly but surely settling into a new home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Fairly certain I first encountered BYC when doing an urgent google search on what was the range of normal is for chicken poop. Love looking at coop designs. Finally joined because I have a specific question that this group seems poised to answer!

I posted my question on the coop building forum. Basically, wondering if it's okay to use methyl-bromide treated pallets to build a coop.
No. It would not be a good idea. Methyl Bromide, any halogen based chemical really, is highly toxic. That is why it is no longer used for new pallet construction in North America. You can usually find free heat treated pallets at big box stores. They are stamped HT on the ends.
