(1) I am new to raising chickens. I mentioned in passing that i wouldnt mind having chickens and whala. I received chickens and a small starter coop for a combonation fathers day and birthday present. I really think my wife and daughter wanted chickens and the convinced my son that i did so they pooled there money and bought me three 1 day old chicks and a coop. One chick died and the hatchery replaced it with 3 more. So now we have 5. In a 4 chicken coop. So we are expanding our run and coop really soon before they get too big.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 5

(3) What breeds do you have? Easter Egger, Blue Orpington, Speckled Sussix, Light Brahma and Dominique

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are enjoyable to watch but i really look forqard to when they start laying. I love fresh pastured eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? It really isnt a hobby for us but we own a horse farm. That is my wifes full time job and my part time job as maintnenance man after i come home from my job. Since we own a farm it doesnt leave a lot of time for hobbies. I have recently started fox huntimg which is a blast and my wife does do combined training shows a few times a year.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have two children daughter 26 and eecently married sone 22 and in college and National Guard. Wife of 27 years.

Welcome to BYC. By 'fox hunting' do you mean riding in a formal hunt ?
Yes. It is a lot of fun. We have only ridden in second field so far. I really hope I can move to first field at some point. I just dont have a lot of time to practice jumping fences. Even though my wife teaches riding lessons for eventing. When I am at the barn I am usually fixing something instead of riding.
