(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not really. My family had 32 when I was 12 and every single one would come on call to a whistle and com'on girls! only for dad and I. They hated my brother and mom was afraid of them. Whereas dad and I would raise them. While he was at work, I would be the one collecting eggs, feeding, watering and cleaning then reading them to practice my reading.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I only have ONE. Though my farming days are through, and I am allergic to dogs, cats and NATURE: I chose a chicken to be my emotional support animal for when I have to go to doctor appt. Chickens make great travelers.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I originally wanted a serama but they aren't sold where I am at and I don't feel right about ordering. Bantams are in high demand so they were all out. I didn't want a standard so I found the Medium sapphire gem. With some research, I found they can be the perfect lap company.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They really are the easiest as far as maintenance.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I craft a LOT. Sculptures, resin, and jewelry. I USE to train horses but with RA and reconstructed right leg with braces on both ankles, I have had to dumb down my activities.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I Love doing YouTube with my Crafts and pets. We are a family of 3. 2 dogs, 2 cats and now 3 birds (cockatiel,parakeet, and chicken). I wasn't diagnosed with allergies until last year 2020. so, um NOT gonna rehome my old animals.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
My vet (Ponti Animal Hospital) told me about BYC. we don't have any avian vets where I live, so I actually travel a long ways to Prairie animal hospital for livestock care in CDA, ID.
