Hello there! Here to offer a quick introduction in order to start us off on the site.

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We actually have zero chickens, but do have four ducks! We got them as ducklings in the summer of 2019 after many years of contemplation.

How many ducks do you have right now?
We currently have four ducks. Their names are Jemima, Talulah, Adelaide, and Jolene.

What breeds do you have?
Two are Anconas (Jemima and Adelaide) while the others are both Khaki Campbells (Talulah and Jolene). We raise them all for eggs, pest and algae maintenance, as well as beloved pets.

What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard ducks?
Besides watching our girls grow from palm-sized specks of brown and yellow fuzz, our favorite aspect of raising ducks is simply observing them as they forage, swim, and play. Before our ducks, we had never thought much about the personality or behavior of birds.

What are some of your other hobbies?
We love to dabble in a little bit of everything. We grow herbs and produce (only enough for ourselves unfortunately), harvest sap from maples on our property, make jams and simple syrups, and do our best to improve our sustainability practices each year. Besides our passion for nature, we are all also avid readers.

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We also share our lives with two dogs and a cat. In total, we are a family of five, with three currently at home.

Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

From the moment we got our girls, we relied on this website for advice and reassurance. We stumbled upon BYC through our frantic googlings and research binges into proper duck husbandry. Until now, we never made the final leap into membership, but it seems like the perfect time to begin contributing to the community and asking for more direct feedback.

Thank you!
