Hello,
(1) We are new to chickens, we got 8 of them 3 weeks ago, they are 6 weeks old now.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Eight.
(3) What breeds do you have? 2 Silver and 2 Golden Wyandotte, 1 Buff and 1 Dark Brahma, 1 Rhode Island Red and 1 Easter Egger.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? We would like to have eggs eventually, and they are super fun! They provide a lot of entertainment for us. We'd love to have them free-range on our property, but we have many hawks in the area.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, birding, photography, reading, cooking, herbalism, learning about anything new.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. It's my husband and I, we are a bit over 50. We moved to a 1/2-acre property a year and a half ago in Southern California; it was our dream to start a homestead. We have 2 indoor cats. My hubby is a "geek" (IT), I homestead and volunteer in the community.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I heard about BYC from the feed store personnel we got the chickens from. He answered countless questions about starting our flock (I had done a lot of research on chickens, but still had many questions). I'm sure we will have many questions and we heard that this is an awesome community.
