Just found this on one of my hens. I keep their coop and run clean and regularly add DE. I bathed them today with Dawn and raked, swept, and gave a good dousing of DE. I sprayed some antiseptic on her leg as well. Any idea what might be cause? Is it mites?

Hi @Jaxson9 :frow Welcome To BYC

It looks like she's been plucked.

It's never a bad idea to check your birds for mites and lice. Look through their feather for any critters. At night, take a flashlight and look again. If you find any, treat with a Permethrin based poultry dust or spray.

Watch your flock to see if the chickens are picking at her. I would also consider that something grabbed at her leg and pulled out some feathers.

Thank you. She seems better. She's eating well, and the irritated area has calmed down. I doused their area really well with DE after a good cleaning and I bathed them. This week nobody is laying. I'm only getting 2 eggs a day and I was getting 6. I have 6 chickens. Thanks so much for your advice. I will try that.
