Is a rooster a good choice for me? new questions

So I thought I had made my decision not to get a roo. Then I came back and read all the posts in favor of having one. Now I'm back to deciding whether I should or should not. I don't think that my neighbors that have the roos have a bantam rooster(which was suggested in another post as being a non breeding, gentle rooster), but I think they do have what looks like a silky or silky cross roo. Not sure how old he is, but he is on the smaller side. Since I have two bantam hens, I was a little worried about the other roosters that they have being too big if he chose to breed with them. I have seen the mating, and yeah, not so pleasant to watch. Are silkies less aggressive in the mating department? I do like the idea of a rooster looking out for the girls. A novice question here: does the mating take place ALL the time, or just seasonally? I'm just afraid that if it doesn't work out, I won't have the heart to get rid of him.I've been to the auction once. That was enough for me. I left in tears. Not used to animals being treated as property instead of pets. Even my goats and sheep are treated just as good as my dogs and cats (and bunnies and fish and finches Unfortunatley, I have to decide by tonight. They go to auction tomorrow

If you don't mind the noise, you live in an area where you can have a roo, and you want fertile eggs, then why not.

if youre naighbors wouldnt mind the crowing and you wouldnt mind the crowing then i would get 1(lol wish i stuck at 1) i have 5 and when 1 crows the rest answer they free range so its like an eco for all corners of our yard as for roughness i dont think it hurts the hens unless you get too maney roos which i have 5roos and 12ish hens all free range and i have no problem my only neighbor rents off us and says he enjoys the crowing hes only talked to us once about our chickens cuz 1 of my roos flogged him so if you have close neighbors may want to pen the roos up they are nice too me but will flog strangers without too much thought
