I am trying to find out what breed my free "exotic" chick is. I know it may be far fetched because its so young, but here is a couple of photos, if anyone is able to tell me yet. I can continue posting as it gets older. They just got here today, so they are a bit stressed, so hopefully these photos are clear enough. The other chicks are barred rocks.

I have a chick that looks pretty close to that. It looks like a PR or RIR to me. My chick came out of the Red "Pullets" bin at tsc. Not sure what she is yet. I'll show the people on BYC a pic when (s)he is older and usually people can tell by then. Does the chick have greenish legs at all??? If so.. I would say EE...

Not all brown chipmunk chicks are EE's I had 2 that looked like that and where brown leghorn. I would wait until it feathers out some and then we should be able to tell more. Also free chick its a rooster.

Did you order from McMurray? I know they throw in a "Free Rare Exotic" chick... It looks like a Brown Leghorn.

It's probably a rooster. But if it's a Brown Leghorn, he'll be absolutely gorgeous!

Here's a link to a pic of a Brown Leghorn rooster: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.leghornfertilehatchingeggs.com/images/LeghornBrownCock.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.leghornfertilehatchingeggs.com/PhotosLeghorns.htm&usg=__8zfnDvBh0aeUiIitLUZGJZAuPvI=&h=275&w=275&sz=26&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=dAYyxiOXYVsFDM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=119&ei=iSi_TcedL-Tk0gGNhOzjBQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3DBrown%2BLeghorn%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3D8Ih%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial%26biw%3D800%26bih%3D363%26tbm%3Disch%26prmd%3Divnsb&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=364&page=1&ndsp=9&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0&tx=58&ty=58

And
a Brown Leghorn chick: http://picsus.eu/image/650fa922/ (click to enlarge)
He's not an Easter Egger (yellow legs and no beard) or a Rhode Island Red (too stripey).

(Edited to fix link)

Thanks for the replies! The legs are not at all greenish, they are just the standard pinkish, so then I'm guessing it must be a leghorn, then. Oh, and yep, we ordered from McMurray.

This might sound stupid, but I have no idea what that means, could you please explain? I am new to chickens.

Not a stupid question at all!

Black Sexlink chicks can be sexed by color at hatch and through maturity by color. At hatch, males will be black with a white spot on the top of their heads, and females will be black with black heads. As they mature, males will be barred (just like a Barred Rock), and females will be black with red leakage on their breasts and throats. Black Sexlinks are usually a Rhode Island Red/Barred Rock cross, but a Brown Leghorn will work as the rooster too. The pluses of Black Sexlinks is that you can sex them by color at any age, and they have hybrid vigour, which makes for a hardier bird.
