I have a friend who gave me a seed. She said it was a Yucca. I have no idea what that is or what to do with it. It's a large pod type thing. Do I open it and take the seeds out or plant the whole thing? Do I plant it inside or wait until spring and plant it outside? Thanks for your help and I hope I put this in the right place.

I'm not a big fan of yuccas...however, you should probably wait til spring and open up a dry pod and plant each seed 3 inches apart.

hi
Not sure where you live i am in Northern Ohio. The Yucca will grow from seed it is a little tempermental but once started...it is hard to KILL. depending on where you are I would just place the seed pod in the refrig. for about two weeks and then take out and plant crack it open ...kinda like nature does. the 2 weeks in the refrig is like the cold winter. I put all my seeds in the refrig before I plant them so they germinate better( at least for me they do).

hope this helps I am sure you will get more advise

Boy that was fast. She sent me a picture of it and I thought it was beautiful. I think I will put it in the refrig for the 2 weeks and see what happens. But then can I put it outside in the spring and plant it in the ground?

OH I forgot to say, I'm in Pennsylvania.

Just make sure that wherever you plant it-----it is a permanent location!!! You will literally need a backhoe to dig it out! I know that from experience.
